We repair most musical instruments, including violins, clarinets, guitars, flutes, saxophones, trumpets and cellos.

How Often Do Instruments Need a Service?

Musical instruments need regular servicing about once a year in order to keep them playing well. Depending on the amount of practice and use, this could increase to a service requirement every 6 months.

How Quick?

We aim to get you playing again as quickly as possible, but you should allow about a week as a turnaround timeframe. Small emergency repairs can often be done straight away on the spot. Replacing a violin string, for example, can often be done while you wait.

Guitars

Servicing undertaken includes re-strings, fitting straps, replacing machine heads, nuts and saddles as well as cosmetic repairs and tuning. Read more on our Guitar Repairs.

Violins and Cellos

Strings and tailpieces are fitted, bridges re-cut and fitted, violin and cello bows can be rehaired. Read about our Violin Repairs.

Woodwind and Brass

We will organise any of the following: servicing, overhauling, resoldering and re-corking. Clarinet corks can be replaced individually or booked in to have the whole set replaced.

Clarinet/Flute Service

Recommended every 12 months for maintenance. See our Clarinet Service.

  • Completely strip down the instrument, remove all key work and thoroughly clean
  • Check cork joints for proper fit
  • Relace any key corks or worn springs
  • Rebuild instrument, check pad seating and regulation, lubricate and set up to play

Saxophone Service

Recommended every 12 months for maintenance

  • Completely strip down the instrument, remove all keywork, clean body and keys
  • Check cork joints for proper fit
  • Replace any worn pads or key corks
  • Re-cork gooseneck if worn
  • Rebuild instrument, check pad seating and regulation, lubricate and set up to play

Ongoing Maintenance

To ensure your instrument is performing at it's very best, a little time and effort spent on cleaning will pay dividends so that you continue to get the best sound. This is your best insurance against an unexpected repair bill. Our tips on instrument care and maintenance leaflets can be picked up in store, or you can read more on our blog.
